The Last Clan of the Desert

by "Ankhsi" Laural Blayde ELLANDJA@aol.com

Some selected poetry written after they were freed by Goliath's Clan and Xanatos...

Disclaimer:

If you already didn't know, the Gargoyles do not belong to me at all. Neither does David Xanatos,Goliath, or Oberon.... I wish I owned Avalon, but I don't own that nice piece of realistate either. I have no money, so if Buena Vista or Disney sues me they'll probably only get my underwear. I hope you enjoyed my blast from the Last Desert Clan. They'll be some Fan-fic about them a little later this month.... End of February, beginning of March- hopefully.

Long before the count of human years we thrived
Before the first steps of man, we lived and died
E're to live without the sun
The light in our hearts made our clan one.

-Amenerat's last words before the spell is cast

I call Esthera, Star bright one.
I call Gebenthryst, Harp of the earth.
I call Amenerat and her mother Anabanarat,
The Hidden city, and the Protected city ,
               I call Khuneb, the Maker
               I call my lord Sethotep,
The God of the Desert is well pleased,
               I call the others....
               The Others!

-The Call of Wepawawan

Doomed we are to stand in silence
Before the coffin of long dead king
                Without stars or air
                ....Nor anything
                Stone they have made us
                As stone we shall stand
Until our kind come to free us
                From the human spell's hand.

-Esthera's Rhyme

                Long have I waited
                Long still to wait
                Memory circles
                In a long winding gate

               Forever to come
               Forever to go
               I stand in dust
               Like cool grey snow

               Snow I saw once
               Snow in the north
               In the land of barbarians
               Who n'er saw Corinth

               I went many places
               I went many times
              Traveling 'round the world
              To Oberon's chimes

              Oberon the Fairy king
              Oberon my second lord
              Sethotep promised servitude
              And Pharoah took his ward

              Pharoah never saw Oberon
              Pharoah never saw Avalon
Sethotep condemed us all to sleep
Because of the price they agreed upon

The Price of Peace was eternal slumber
The Price until our kind came to free us
The Ward is buried on Pharoah's breast
Under strips of linen and boards of lumber

I would rip the corpse's heart out
I think that would do no good
But to make me feel avenged
              That act surely would

I have had enough of lying kings
I have had enough of sleep
It is now time to awaken
              I feel my blood creep

My kinsman are now close at hand
My kind come to break the spell
To feel the air upon my skin
Now that would do me well.

- Ankhsi's lament

                                       Stone,
                                We are as stone
Older than grave, Older than ice
                                  We are as ice
Ice is a shell upon spring, Ice is the shell of the winter
                                       Winter .

-Khuneb explains the Gargoyles sleeping habits to a barbarian ,in poetry

The earth sleeps in the desert
As do I now, As do I
           The desert sleeps forever
As do I now, As do I
           Lament not, love
As do I now, As do I
For you shall never die, love
As do I now, As do I
You'll not go to sleep beneath the dunes
As do I now, As do I
To wake n'er again beneath the moon
As do I now, As do I

- Gebenthryst's last words to the Princess Nefere

            Dark is like a window
            Upon a silent world
           Time is but a slate
           To see the plan unfurled
To sleep is not too bad a thing
For we shall see what the future will bring.

- Anabanarat's thoughts

I have failed my beloved mate
Anabanarat and her theory of the slate
Though I have tried to understand
I wish to disobey the royal command
To sleep the twenty of us go
To ensure peace, the humans say so
I hear the rest of the clan's screams in my mind
The humans have lied another time.

- Sethotep's last regret
